Salivating for smokies? Jumping for jams? Buzzing for berries?

Sample “A Taste of Angus” at one of your favourite venues during Angus’ week-long festival, from 31 August to 8 September, celebrating our local larder, talented food & drink industry and amazing bars, restaurants & cafes!

Throughout the week, venues will be offering exclusive events such as tastings, dinners, and workshops. Innovators from the food and drink sector will sharing the stories of how some of our Angus staples came to be.

A Taste of Angus Food & Drink Festival will run from Saturday 31st August to Sunday 8th September at venues throughout Angus.

Come and enjoy the best Angus has to offer in Food, Drink,Crafts and Music and in the stunning setting of the House of Dun! Keep your eye out for the list of delicious vendors and exciting stalls that will be setting up in our grounds.

31 August 12 noon – 7pm

Come and sample the very best local food and drink at one of Angus’ finest farm shops and cafes. Home baking, local tipples and tasty treats await.
31 August 10am – 4pm

Forfar’s Foodie History  @ Meffan Museum

Discover the important role food & drink has played in Forfar’s history. Explore the narrow and cobbled Vennel, and visit Peter Reid’s Sweet Shop and see Forfar Bridies fresh from the oven!

‘On The Rocks’ at the Scottish Geology Festival Conference @ Signal Tower Museum

Enjoy a local tipple in the courtyard of the Signal Tower Museum, as part of the Scottish Geology Conference 2024.

Weaning Workshop with NHS Tayside & Upper Dysart Larder @ Gayfield Park

Our weaning workshops will help you understand when your baby is ready to be introduced to solid food. We explore how you start this journey (at around 6 months of age), and using fresh, locally grown vegetables from Upper Dysart Larder, we will show you how to prepare easy first tastes for your baby.

Espresso Martini Masterclass with Redcastle & Sacred Grounds Coffee Co.

Learn how to make the perfect espresso martini using locally made ingredients from local distillers Redcastle and local coffee roasters, Sacred Grounds Coffee Company.

4 September 7pm – 8:30pm

Community Screening of Six Inches of Soil and Q&A panel discussion.

The inspiring story of British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food – to heal the soil, benefit our health and provide for local communities. A panel Q&A discussion will be held after the screening. Panelists include Jim Wilson, Farmer & MD of Soil Essentials, Jillian McEwan of Lunan Bay Farms, Ceri Ritchie from SAC Consulting Food & Enterprise, Ruth White from Scottish Land & Estates, Roy Neilson from James Hutton Institute (and chair of Angus SECAP) and Kate Munro from Angus Climate Hub.

5 September 7pm

The Garden Café at Pathhead Farm

Enjoy a Taste of Angus at Pathhead Farm. Delicious local food and drink on the Garden Café menu, including their own home grown salads. Work off lunch with a walk around the farm to explore what’s growing in their vegetable garden.

Harvest Festival @ Barry Mill

Enjoy a day out at Barry Mill: Duck races, free Mill entry, children’s games, entertainment from the Dundee University Jazz ensemble, local brass bands, face painter, craft stalls and Food & Drink stalls from Angus based producers.

8 September

“A Taste of Abbey Life”

Enjoy an exclusive foodie tour of Arbroath Abbey. Hear all about the important role food and drink has played throughout the history of the Abbey. From weeky markets to food growing and production, the Abey has a rich and varied connection to food & drink. You will also enjoy full access to the visitor centre as part of your tour.

Sunday Cook School Sessions with WeeCook and Fallones Pizza @ Wee Cook Kitchen

Join a foodie masterclass from the team behind two of Angus’ finest producers. Join the WeeCook kitchen crew to learn some secrets from Head Chef Hayley and Sous Chef Ethan and Pizza Like a Pro with Mike from Fallones Pizza. Not to be missed!

Join the WeeCOOK crew for an immersive and interactive pie making masterclass in our award-winning restaurant and pie making HQ! Receive a tour, instruction and a demo from one of the WeeCOOK chefs followed by the opportunity to fill and bake a pie of your own to take home.

The 9am Mini Pie Making session is for kids under 15 only, who must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The 10am Pie Making session is for adults only.

Sacred Grounds Coffee Company. Roastery – Angus Doors Open Days 2024

Sacred Grounds is a small artisan coffee roastery, roasting coffee on Fatima, their 5kg Toper machine.

Come and hear the story of coffee from field to cup, sample different coffee origins and hear more about the roasting process. A great opportunity to ask your coffee questions!

 

7 September
10am to 2pm

We have a small Moonshine village watched over by angels, and when you sit in the distillery near to the stills you are in the heart of it all. Everything we do is by hand and our facility is sustainable and has award-winning toilets.

At the distillery you can sample the products or pay to do a full tasting of our award-winning Moonshine and Gins. Our products are based on Scottish desserts and taste like nothing else out there. We are changing up what it looks like and feels like to be in a distillery with rock music playing and plenty of quirky things to look at.

Pop in during Doors Open Days to have a look around the distillery and enjoy a free sample of Moonshine or Gin.

 Nestled in the historic village of Glamis, The Bothy Experience, home of the award-winning Gin Bothy, invites you to celebrate the 2024 Taste of Angus Festival with us.  Join us for an exclusive drop-in event (no booking required) where you can savor complimentary samples from our popular range of Bothy spirits and liqueurs, and treat yourself to our delicious Jam Bothy preserves, showcasing the finest Angus produce and soft fruits.  While you’re here, explore our exhibition rooms and larder shop, unwind with hot and cold refreshments in our outdoor courtyard, and consider booking a full gin tasting experience (advance booking recommended for tastings).  We look forward to welcoming you for a memorable celebration of the Taste of Angus!

The humble Arbroath Smokie boasts PGI status, the same as Champagne and Stilton, and you can explore the history and flavour by following the Smokie Trail. The team of volunteers at Monifieth & District Community Fridge, based at 48 High Street in Monifieth, will be on hand to help you stock your fridge and cupboards with all the surplus food they have collected.
