Appetite for Angus were so excited to take a group of our members to the Specialty Food Show at Scotland’s Trade Fairs in Glasgow thanks to Invest in Angus helping support this initiative with funding from their SME grant scheme.
The tradeshow ran from 19th – 21st January at the SEC in Glasgow, and was an opportunity for retail, hospitality & wholesale ready producers to present their products to a range of buyers from across the UK.
Two of the Angus businesses who took up the opportunity to be part of the Appetite for Angus stand, tasted immediate success with Kinnaird Kitchen winning Silver in the Confectionery, Bakery & Snacks category for their fudge and Wee COOK winning gold in the fresh produce category for their trio of pies gift set.
Hayley Wilkes of Wee Cook said “Great to work together and represent our county and community and produce and producers from Angus! Great to hear all the positive comments from folk tasting tasters of produce and asking about us, asking what appetite for Angus is. Also many of the people we spoke to from other parts of the country loved that we had come collectively as a food group. Getting to know Alister from taste of Arran and chat with the Orkney lot was super insightful. Even being at the show with other Angus producers of different sizes and circles was inspiring and I felt like we really bonded together with the shared aim of promoting Angus in all its awesomeness.”
Jessica Squires from Upper Dysart added “I absolutely second Hayley! Being a part of the Angus stand made me feel super proud of not only what we have achieved but everyone else there! We are fantastic producers and to be able to showcase that together was brilliant! Power in numbers. It’s an exciting future ahead for Angus. Was also fantastic getting to know everyone better or for the first time and make new connections which will benefit collaborations in the future – I hope! Much more enjoyable than having a wee stand yourself.”
